He was best known for playing the sarcastic and quick-witted Chandler Bing on the sitcom Friends, which ran from 1994 to 2004. Background/biography

Matthew Perry was the son of actor and model John Bennett Perry and Canadian journalist Suzanne Morrison. His parents separated when he was young, and he spent much of his childhood in Ottawa, Ontario, where his mother worked in Canadian politics and later married journalist Keith Morrison.

Perry attended Ashbury College in Ottawa and became a competitive junior tennis player, ranking highly among players in Canada for his age group. As a teenager, he moved to Los Angeles to live with his father and attended The Buckley School. His interest in acting developed during his school years, and he began auditioning for television roles while still young.

Before his breakthrough, Perry appeared in television programs and pilots, including Boys Will Be Boys and L.A.X. 2194. His early work helped lead to the role that would define much of his public career: Chandler Bing on Friends.

Outside of acting, Perry took on writing and producing responsibilities in several projects. In his memoir, he spoke publicly about substance-use disorder, rehabilitation, and his efforts to support people seeking recovery.

His lasting association with Chandler Bing
