A return to Saturday Night Live
Gillis was announced as a featured player on Saturday Night Live in 2019, but NBC rescinded the hiring days later after older podcast clips containing offensive language circulated publicly. The decision prompted broad discussion about comedy, online archives and casting standards.
In February 2024, Gillis returned to the program as its host. The appearance was widely noted because it came several years after his brief and controversial association with the show.
