Mikaela Shiffrin is an American alpine skier, born on March 13, 1995, in Vail, Colorado. She competes for the United States Ski Team and is best known for her success in slalom, giant slalom and other Alpine World Cup disciplines. Shiffrin is an Olympic champion, a multiple-time world champion and the all-time leader in Alpine Ski World Cup race victories.
Background/biography
Shiffrin was raised in a skiing family. Her parents, Jeff and Eileen Shiffrin, were both recreational ski racers, and her mother later became a major figure in managing and supporting her competitive career. She spent part of her childhood in Colorado before her family moved to New Hampshire.
She attended Burke Mountain Academy in Vermont, a school known for developing competitive alpine skiers. Shiffrin began racing at a young age and quickly established herself as a leading junior competitor. Her career has also included difficult periods, including a serious crash during a World Cup downhill race in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, in 2024. She returned to competition after recovering from injuries sustained in the incident.
