Wardell Stephen Curry II, known as Stephen Curry or “Steph” Curry, is an American professional basketball player born on March 14, 1988, in Akron, Ohio. He is a point guard for the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Widely regarded as one of basketball’s greatest shooters, Curry has helped redefine the modern game through his long-range shooting, ball-handling and off-ball movement. He has won multiple NBA championships, NBA Most Valuable Player awards and an NBA Finals MVP award.
Background/biography
Stephen Curry is the son of former NBA player Dell Curry and Sonya Curry. He spent much of his childhood in Charlotte, North Carolina, where his father played for the Charlotte Hornets. His younger brother, Seth Curry, also became an NBA player, while his sister, Sydel Curry-Lee, played volleyball at Elon University.
Curry attended Charlotte Christian School, where he played high school basketball. Despite his success, he was not heavily recruited by major college programs, in part because of his relatively slight build at the time.
